The Rusk Lady Eagle volleyball team is off to a fast start for the 2017 volleyball season, picking up victories in their first seven games and claiming the championship at the annual Westwood Tournament over the weekend with a 2-1 win over Cayuga. The Lady Eagles, coached by Billie Walley, are 7-0 thus far in the season. Rusk traveled to Diboll Tuesday and will take part in tournament play in Marshall this weekend. The Rusk Eagles 8U softball team headed to the Texas Teenage Softball state tournament last week in honor of their teammate, Zoe Powers, who lost her battle against leukemia July 2. Tournament organizers and the other teams, including fellow county team the Alto Knockouts, took part in a ceremony honoring Zoe prior to the start of the tournament. The team received a framed jersey with Zoe’s number 9 and kept her jersey in the dugout each game of both the district and state tournaments.
