World War II veteran Ernie Andrus, 91, ran through Alto Aug. 13 to raise money for the LST 325 Ship Memorial as part of his Coast2Coast run. The memorial will be taken to Normandy and beached at the same location where it was during D-Day in 1944. He was then honored with a potluck dinner sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rusk VFW, post 3406, Thursday evening. Several county residents joined Mr. Andrus on his run, including Alto Police Chief Jeremy Jackson and Rusk State Hospital director of community relations DeDe Clark.
