Mary A. Bennett
Funeral service for Mary A. Bennett, 94, of Alto will be Saturday, June 29,
at 11 AM (Visitation 9:30-11) at First Baptist Church Alto, with Reverend Jerry
Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Alto cemetery immediately following the
service. Ms. Bennett entered into heaven Sunday, June 23 2024 in Hemphill.
She was born November 15, 1929 in Montgomery, Texas to Berry and Martha Ruth
Williams. She met her husband Carroll on the volleyball court; they married in
1949 and lived in Pasadena for 30 years before retiring to Alto in 1983. Ms. Bennett was in charge of the attendance office at Sam Rayburn High School in the 1970s.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Pasadena and a former member
of Reklaw Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Alto, and Campground Baptist
Church. Her life was symbolized by an attentive heart and a strong desire to share her
Christian faith. Despite being afflicted with polio at the age of 22, she used this as
a platform to display Gods mercy and grace. She appreciated everyone she met,
never doubted Gods plan for her life, and sought to always be available and serve
others. She was a prayer warrior, and counseled many.
We call her blessed and we were blessed to love her. We appreciate Mom for her life and legacy. Her
courageous spirit, testimony, and ministry will live on through all those she
touched! (Proverbs 31:25-28) God is faithful!
She was preceded in death by her daughter Carolyn Ann; her brothers: GB (Gentry Berry), Perry, Ray, and Tommy; her sisters: Ruth, Elenor (Tottie), Bitsy; and great grandchildren: Benjamin, Jacob, John and Baby Bunny.
She is survived by her brother Billy Williams of Montgomery; sons and
daughters-in-law: Jerry (DeeAnne) of Loraine, Ricky (Celinda) of Tarkington, and
Ronny (Suzanne) of Richards; brother and sister-in-law Truett Bennett (Kay) of
Silsbee: grandchildren: John David (Stephanie), Paul (Katrinia), Mary (Todd),
Haley, Caitlyn (Dustin), Christa, Ceanna, and great grandchildren: Mason, Hannah,
Thomas, Lila, Cooper, John Knox, and Landry, as well as numerous nieces and
