John J. McGuinness, Jr.

John J. McGuinness, Jr. 63, of Rusk passed away January 13, 2024 in Tyler. He was born August 8, 1960 in North Hempstead, New York to John J. McGuinness and Ellenjean Dishman McGuinness. John enjoyed racing. He was lucky enough during his younger years to be involved in all aspects, from building to driving dirt track and other various race cars. He was able to use his God given talent to be able to work on most anything and used this talent to help those around him fix things around their homes. If you called him and he didn’t know how to fix it, he would find someone that did. Dale Earnhardt #3 was his driver. He retired from the TDCJ after 30 years of service. During his retirement, John drove a dump truck for Jerry Lusk.

John is survived by his wife: Cindy McGuinness of Rusk; mother: Ellenjean McGuinness of Lufkin; son: Daniel McGuinness of Tyler; stepson: Chad Jarratt of Whitehouse; granddaughter: Lexi McGuinness; and niece: Jaelynn June who always referred to him as Uncle John; as well as a number of extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his dad and his sister: Ellen Jean Gaston. John will always be remembered for his love for his family, his country, his racing, and his animals.

A service to celebrate his life will be scheduled in the near future.
