Joyce Berry Teague
Joyce Berry Teague, 96, of Miramar Beach, passed away December 1, 2023 at her home in Florida. She was born November 21, 1927 in Rusk, TX to Willie Carl Berry and Alto Allie Hastens Berry. She was the middle child out of seven. She was raised in the piney woods of East Texas, called Sardis. She loved her upbringing, although it was a hard living. She talked about bringing buckets of water up from the creek, which her family attributed to her ability to arm wrestle boys twice her size. Joyce loved caring for her home and family. She learned early to cook, clean and care for her siblings. This would carry over to her family after she married J.D. Teague December 7, 1945. Joyce loved keeping her house, cooking and sewing. Later she picked up oil painting as a hobby. Her favorite past time was always visiting with her family and going fishing!
Joyce accepted the Lord at the age of 12, but didn’t attend church much until she and J.D. moved the family to Alvin, TX. While in Alvin, she became very involved in church and was a faithful church goer ever after. She loved teaching the five year olds, and taught the 5 year old class for about 30 years. She has been a member of a Baptist church everywhere she has lived. Her last membership was with Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, TX. Although her membership didn’t change when she moved to Florida, Joyce did enjoy going on outings to different churches in the area as well as the preaching at the Blake Home were she last resided.
Joyce is survived by her children: John Teague and wife Muriel, Jeanne Brown and husband Porter, Judy Crenshaw and husband Wilson Brooks; sister: Martha Roberts; grandchildren: P.J. Brown, IV, Regina Frazer, Jeremiah Brown, Nathan Crenshaw; great grandchildren: Morgen Teague Frazer, Carter Brown, Maisy Brown, Porter J Brown, V, Davis Crenshaw, Frankie Crenshaw; as well as a number of nieces, nephews who she loved a lot.
