Early voting scheduled Oct. 23-Nov. 3

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Early voting for an upcoming November special election is set for Oct. 23-Nov. 3, in which residents will consider 14 proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot.

Additionally, the City of New Summerfield has ordered a general election seeking the adoption of a 1.5% local sale and use tax.

Registered Cherokee County voters can cast their ballots at any one of three polling places set up for early voting, with sites located at the Cherokee County Election office, 138 W. 5th St. in Rusk; Jacksonville Public Library, 526 E. Commerce St.; and The River Church, 595 Marcus St. in Alto.

Polls will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 23-27, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The following week, polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1; as well as from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday-Friday, Nov. 2-3.

Voters must present a valid ID to cast a ballot, as per the Texas Secretary of State office. The office also noted an Oct. 27 deadline to request a mail ballot application.

Meanwhile, Cherokee County residents can now use the TextMyGov app on their smartphone to find out election information. Just text the word “Hi” to 903-683-0060 to get started. To receive county text message notifications, text the phrase “CHEROKEE COUNTY VOTER” to 91896.
