County to hold Sept. 5 public hearing on tax rate
RUSK – A Sept. 5 public hearing for a proposed 49-cent property tax rate will be held as part of a 9 a.m. Cherokee County Commissioners' Court meeting on Tuesday at the county courthouse.
County leaders are then expected to adopt the rate, which is comprised of a combined 35-cent General Fund tax rate and a 14-cent Lateral Road tax rate that will help fund the recently adopted $30,249,592 budget for the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. Both it and the tax rate, which is assessed per $100 valuation, are effective Oct. 1, the start of the county's new fiscal year.
County leaders also are expected to authorize payment of bills, payroll and transfer of funds during Tuesday's meeting.
A healthy Cherokee County requires great community news.
