An early morning fire Monday, June 5, 2023, at the RISD administration building caused some tense moments for employees, who were safely evacuated from the site. Power had been off in parts of the town due to severe storms that rolled through the area on Sunday night. Rusk Superintendent Grey Burton said that, “evidently, when the power was restored it causes a surge to the main electrical panel and it caught fire. We don’t know the extent of the damage at this time other than the wiring in the building. We will not be able to work there and we are examining other spaces the staff can work from temporarily.” According to Denise Watkins, administrative assistant to Burton, offices have been relocated to the district training center, 199 Eagle Dr., until further notice.
