Area historic parks among those without power

The effects of a severe thunderstorm that rolled through Cherokee County late Thursday evening are still impacting areas in and around Cherokee County, among them historic parks on Texas Highway 21, who are reporting they are without power as of Friday afternoon, March 3.

Officials with Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, at 1649 Highway 21 West in Alto, noted on its Facebook page in a 2:40 p.m. post Friday that the site is currently closed due to a power outage there.

Meanwhile, officials at Mission Tejas State Park, located at 19343 Texas 21 East in Grapeland, posted on its Facebook page at approximately 12:45 p.m. Friday, that the site “does not have electricity at this time due to last night’s storm. It may be tomorrow or the next day before it is restored.” No word on whether a 2 p.m. “Height Hike – Tallest in Texas” on Saturday, March 4, has been cancelled.

A Cherokee County ECA outage map reported at 3:31 pm. Friday that in Cherokee County, a total of 1,313 customers remain without power (poweroutage.us), while the site “stormcenter.oncor.com” reports 1,744 active outages affecting 33,505 customers as of 3:52 p.m. Friday.
