by Staff reports

National Weather Service officials have issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Monday, Oct. 24, for Cherokee and surrounding counties. This area includes northeast Texas, southeast Oklahoma, north central/northwest Louisiana and south central/southwestern Arkansas.

Thunderstorms increased throughout the afternoon across portions of East Texas, spreading east across the remainder of the region overnight, ahead of a cold front and a strong

upper level storm system. A few severe storms will also be possible, with damaging winds the primary threat. Possible large hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, officials said.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will return by Friday, they added.
