All around Cherokee County this weekend

Looking for fun stuff to do this weekend? Check out these events planned Oct. 8-9 in Cherokee County:

TROUP – Local residents will commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary of founding with a day-long celebration Saturday featuring a number of Sesquicentennial events, starting with a 10 a.m. parade. Food trucks and other vendors will be on hand, while a car/truck/tractor show is planned, as is a Kidzone at the First United Methodist Church lawn. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Tuxedo Cats, Shake, Rattle & Roll and other local musicians. Additionally, the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library will host the “Troup Historical Display” from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

GALLATIN – The Gallatin Fall Fest kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday with live music provided by artists such as Clint Alford, Ian Chandler, Virginia Goforth, Baylee Willis, Mark and John Taylor, Sean Christopher, Seamuis Strain, and Dog, who will perform until dark. Other events will be held throughout the afternoon, including a cakewalk staged during music breaks. Kids games begin at 3 p.m., with bingo starting at 5:30 p.m.

BULLARD – The Texas Veterans Military & Classic Car Show will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 655 S. Doctor M. Roper Parkway in Bullard. The event begins with a military convoy led by Patriot Guard Riders from Tyler to Bullard. Approximately 60-plus military vehicles will be there, along with airborne jumpers, a traveling Texas Wall of Living History, classic vehicles, a flyover and music by Mouse & the Traps.

REKLAW – The Reklaw Trade Day begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at 140 W. Main St., and features a variety of goods and vendors.

JACKSONVILLE – The final day of a “United We Stand: Cherokee County Revival” is planned Saturday at the Jacksonville Rodeo Arena, 604 Woodlawn Ave. A 5 p.m. meal, followed by a 6:30 p.m. rival, features worship, service and fellowship.

Then, on Sunday, leading Texas railroad historian and author Steve Allen Goen will appear at the Jacksonville Public Library at 1:30 p.m. to discuss his books, “Passenger Trains of Texas – Cotton Belt” and “Passenger Trains of Texas – Missouri-Pacific.” The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library. The library is located at 526 E. Commerce St.
