Oct. 11 deadline for voter registration; county election officials announce early voting dates, sites

Texas residents have less than a week until an Oct. 11 deadline to register to vote in the November general elections, which will have a slew of races, from gubernatorial to local referendums.

In Cherokee County, residents may print out an online voter application from the Texas Secretary of State website, https://www.sos.state.tx.us/, filling it out and mailing to or dropping off the Cherokee County Election Department, located at 138 W. 5th St. in Rusk, TX 75785.

Printed applications also are available at these sites in Cherokee County:

• Wells – Post office; Rube Sessions Library at 298 Rusk Ave.

• Alto – Post office; Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace office at 123 W. San Antonio St.

• Rusk – Post office; the County Election office at 138 W. 5th St.; Rusk Public Library at 207 E. 6th St.

• Jacksonville – Post office; Jacksonville Public Library at 526 E. Commerce St.

• New Summerfield – Post office

• Bullard – City Hall at 114 S. Phillips St.

The general election will be held Nov. 8 across the state, with early voting period set for Oct. 24 through Nov. 4.

Early voting sites are at the County Election Office, the Jacksonville Library and at The River Church, 595 Marcus St. Alto. Residents can vote at the site most convenient to them during that period only, with identification required for voting, per the Texas Secretary of State office.

During the first week of the early voting period, polls will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 24-28 and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The following week, polls will be open from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 2-4.
