Rusk to hold Oct. 1 fall clean-up day

by Staff reports

RUSK – A city-wide clean-up day will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the City Warehouse on U.S. Highway 69 South.

The event is restricted to residents living inside city limits or who receive city water service outside city limits.

According to Public Works Director Neil Holcomb the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has strict regulations and guidelines for these events, and asks that residents adhere to them to ensure safety of both the staff and community.

Items that the landfill will not accept include: Liquids of any kind; whole tires (must be split or quartered); oil or oil filters; refrigerators, A/C units or appliances containing CFCs

(Freon); lead acid batteries; hazardous waste; chemicals or pesticides; paint or paint

buckets (accepted only if paint is completely dried and free of liquid); medical waste of any kind; or dead animals.

Items that are allowed include: Brush and yard waste; bulky items; household items;

furniture; outdoor grills; dishwashers; appliances that do not use Freon; paper or

cardboard items; lawn mowers; construction debris; wood and metal items; mattress sets; and water heaters. These items are mentioned as a guideline and not inclusive – residents may throw away any debris as long as it is not listed among the non-acceptable items.

All items must be manageable by two people when loading the container.

Residents are asked to bring a city water bill in order to dump items at the clean-up site, Holcomb said.
