Sherwood Smith

A funeral service for Sherwood Smith of Rusk, is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022 at Mt. Hope Church on CR 2109 between Rusk and Maydelle where Bro. Jack White will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service also at Mt Hope Church. He will be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove in Maydelle.

He was born on January 16, 1940 and passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2022. He was a member of Mt. Hope for many years. He was a proud member of the IBEW for 40 years. He was retired front Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Stella Faye Smith; sisters, Shirley Smith and Carolyn Cartwright.

Left to cherish Sherwood’s memory are his wife Vurlene Smith of Rusk; son, David Neal Smith and wife Charla of Athens, daughter, Joyce Hammonds and husband Tom of Dallas; brother, Callie Wayman Smith; and sister, Linda Drake and husband Dennis all of Gallatin. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Mikah Smith and wife Brittany, Lance Smith and wife Mikala, Michael Gunn and wife Samantha, and Michele Johnson and husband Matt, and 5 great-grandchildren

Sherwood enjoyed many years of retirement fishing, hunting, and making new friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
