Jacksonville leaders to consider demolition of central fire station, resolution supporting JEDCO golf course expenditure

JACKSONVILLE – The demolition of Jacksonville’s central fire station, which has been vacated with the moving of crews and equipment to the new South Bolton Street public safety center, is among the main discussion during a Jacksonville City Council meeting Tuesday evening at 315 S. Ragsdale.

Removal of the existing building – an item listed as part of consent agenda – will allow for an expanded green space next to Hazel Tilton Park, according to an agenda packet.

The council also hold a second reading of a resolution approving a JEDCO expenditure “in an amount not to exceed $1,600,000 for the purchase of approximately 187 acres of real property known as the Cherokee Ranch Golf Course.”

Among other agenda items to be considered by city leaders are:

• Consideration of rejecting the bid on Community Development Block Grant Contract #7220072 Downtown Revitalization Project

• Separate hearings/input on requests for zone changes at properties on James Street and at the southwest corner of Bonner and Zimmerman Street, followed by the consideration of ordinances for each

• Hear/receive input on a request for a special use permit allowing for a cell tower at 321 E. Tena, followed by consideration of ordinance in support of request

• Pending review by city attorney, consider approval of contract with MPA Fireworks for an amount not to exceed $20,000 for the purchase of fireworks for the annual Lake Jacksonville Association July 4th fireworks display, with approval contingent upon reimbursement agreement with the association
• Possible replat of Lake Jacksonville lots in the Piney Point Subdivision at residents’ request to correct some existing encroachments

The agenda notes that the council will meet in closed executive session to discuss deliberations about real property and consult with the city attorney. Action, if any, will take place when the council resumes into open meeting, as per Texas Government Code.
