RUSK – A recent rash of thefts and vehicle break-ins have been reported throughout Rusk, with various items of potential value taken.

“We have taken multiple reports today, from various places around the city, and we know some guns, purses and pretty much anything with potential value have been taken,” Rusk Police Chief Jeremy Black said Thursday evening. “We think it may be the same people responsible.”

He confirmed that areas include Ellis, Hospital and Summer Breeze streets, along with an area behind Brookshire Brothers.

“People need to lock their cars before they go inside – (the unknown suspects) are walking down the road, pulling door handles to see what opens,” he said.

Witnesses are encouraged to come forward to share information.

Also, “we’re getting word that people are getting broken into, but nothing was taken – those folks need to report that to us, and anyone with video (security) needs to check that video, because that’s where we’ll get a lot of information,” he added.
