RUSK – A final proposed redistricting plan for Cherokee County, based on 2020 Census data, will be presented during an Oct. 26 Commissioners’ Court meeting at the Cherokee County Courthouse in Rusk.

Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP, which is drawing up a proposal for redistricting, has recommended shifting populations into different areas in the county to better represent residents, as it balances out the population for Precincts 2 and 3.

An initial workshop was conducted during an Oct. 12 meeting, with final adoption slated Nov. 9, in order to meet a completion deadline by Nov. 12.

A meeting agenda notes that members of the court reserve the option to go into executive session to receive advice from legal counsel regarding the redistricting plan; action, if any, will be taken when members reconvene into open meeting, as per Texas Government Code.

Other agenda items for the Oct. 26 meeting include:

• Consider laying utility lines in each precinct

• Consider approval of radio donation checks from local police departments

• Consider approval of FY 2022 special budgets, as required by law

• Approve a consent agenda
