RUSK – A health initiative based on “walking” across the state kicks off at 10 a.m. rally Friday, Oct. 1, on the Cherokee County Courthouse lawn.

It’s a fun way for youths and adults to form teams of family or friends – or both – to challenge each other to get fit, said Stephanie “Amy” Walley, Cherokee County AgriLife Extension’s FCS agent. “I’m also hoping to have schools in our county participate as well – it's an easy way to start working your way into a routine of exercising it's free and you fit it into your schedule.”

This year, Cherokee County has partnered with Anderson and Henderson counties to create a “Commit to be Fit” page on Facebook, encouraging participants of the eight-week community program.

“You’ll find healthy recipes and plenty of motivation to keep you walking,” Walley said. “In the past, the program has been very successful and we hope to be as successful this year.”

If unable to attend the kick-off rally, Walley said folks can still sign up at any time.
