Clean-up days slated throughout county
CHEROKEE COUNTY – Residents of Rusk, Wells and Alto doing deep fall cleaning are invited to bring their debris for disposal at designated locations in each city this month.
Rusk’s clean-up day is slated from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the City Warehouse on U.S. Highway 69 South.
Wells has planned a two-day event, also starting Oct. 2. Hours are from 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, through 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at the depot located behind the local city hall, 293 Rusk Ave.
The Alto clean-up weekend is set for Oct. 15-16 at the water tower on Rusk Street, across from the cemetery, according to city officials.
While cities’ list may vary slightly, items generally accepted for these events include brush/yard waste; bulky items; household items; furniture; outdoor grills; dishwashers; appliances that do not use Freon; paper or cardboard items; lawn mowers; construction debris; mattress sets wood/metal items; and water heaters
Commonly banned items include: Liquids of any kind; whole tires (must be split or quartered); oil/oil filters; refrigerators/AC units/appliances containing CFCs (Freon); lead acid batteries; hazardous waste; chemicals/pesticides; paint/paint buckets (the exception is if paint is completely dried and free of liquid); medical waste of any kind; and dead animals.
