Remembering 9/11

The Cherokee County courthouse square was the site of a commemorative observance of the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Organized by Kenneth McClure, the event featured prayers, patriotic songs, readings and rifle salute. No patriotic event is complete unless Virginia Goforth sings her signature songs. She shared that Sept. 11 is a special day in her family as it is her mother’s birthday; she was born on that date in 1916. She hopes to make the trip to Oklahoma in the near future to celebrate with her mother.
