Summer swelter: Heat advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday

East Texas and surrounding regions are under a heat advisory though 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials reported that heat index values of between 105 and 109 degrees are expected, and remind residents to take precautions to help prevent heat illnesses.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances,” said NWS officials
People also are advised to take extra precautions if working or spending time outside; when possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Also:
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the OSHA recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
