Commissioners Court to hold Aug. 24 hearing on $24.6 million proposed budget
RUSK – A public hearing on a proposed $24.6 million county budget will be held during a 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, Cherokee County Commissioners’ Court meeting at the county courthouse in Rusk.
“The budget up for consideration to be adopted on Tuesday is $24,651,335, or an increase of $1,964,049 from (last year’s) budget,” said County Auditor Steve Daugherty.
Following the hearing, court members also will consider holding a public hearing on a proposal of setting tax rate for upcoming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. That rate, Daughety said, “will be somewhere between the No New Revenue rate ($0.561022) and the Voter Approval Tax-Rate ($0.590749).
According to a meeting agenda, county leaders will:
• Consider laying utility lines in each precinct
• Consider approval for sale of vehicle at the county sheriff’s department
• Consider approval for the sale of miscellaneous items for the Sheriff’s Department
• Consider approval of election workers and consolidated polling places
• Consider approval for Auditor’s Office to conduct an audit on all Chapter 59 Forfeiture Funds as required by Article 59.08(g)(1) of the Code of criminal procedure
• Consider/take action on annual bid tabulations received for items to purchase between Oct. 1, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022. Bids were opened Friday, Aug. 12, 2021, at 10 a.m.
• Consider approval of the interlocal agreement with north East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NETRMA) for the purpose of providing grant funding in connection with the design of improvements at the Cherokee County Airport.
• Consider approval of agreement for funding 9-1-1 Database Maintenance activities between ETCOG and Cherokee County
• Consider approval of consent agenda that includes monthly reports from the county auditor’s, the county treasurer’s and license & weight offices; a final plat creating Lots 1-25 of Stone Chimney Cove North Subdivision, Unit 1 in the John Vaughn Survey, Abstract No. 53. Dedication of 2.232 acres (Stone Chimney Cove Road) for additional county road right-of-way. See Road Bond; and authorization of payment of bills, payroll and transfer of funds.
