JULY 14

A July 14 adolescent first-dose COVID vaccination clinic at the Jacksonville Public Library, 526 E. Commerce St., is open to youths ages 12-17. The clinic is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with no appointment necessary. To learn more, contact the Cherokee County Public Health Department, 903-586-6191, ext. 11 or ext. 12.

JULY 15

Bobby’s Tire/Auto Service, 302 N. Jackson St., will host Coffee with a Cop, from 8-9 a.m. Thursday, July 15.

All area Veterans are invited to a free lunch at the Palestine VVA/DAV Hall at noon. The Hall is located at 927 Gardner Dr. in Palestine. Lunch is provided by four Anderson County healthcare providers, with a program presented by Deanna Adams of Adams NP Medical Services. Local chapters of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled American Veterans host the luncheons in conjunction with these health care organizations. The meal is open to all veterans and their families, along with individuals interested in veteran health issues.

Cherokee Ranch Golf Club will host a free Kids’ Golf Camp Thursdays during July. An upcoming camp will be held from 6-7 p.m. July 15. Register at the Pro Shop, 903-541-4700.

JULY 16

Highway 69 Mission and Lone Star Military Resource Group will host an open house, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, July 16, at 203 N. Jackson St. (U.S. Highway 69 North) in Jacksonville. Door prizes will be distributed throughout the day.

THROUGH JULY 15

The Military Veteran Peer Network Cherokee and Anderson County will host a July 16 drawing for a Ruger Max 9, tickets sold through July 15, at Cherokee Parcel Post and For the Love of Nutrition, both in downtown Rusk. Tickets are $10 each, with proceeds benefitting local veterans. The prize also comes with a box of ammo, both of which have been donated by Cherokee Tactical. To learn more, call 903-721-2078.

JULY 17

A school supply drive for Alto ISD students will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at the Booker T. Washington Community Center.

Dehart Veterinary Services distributes free dog food on the third Saturday of the month at the Haystack Restaurant parking lot in Reklaw. The Dehart mobile veterinary clinic is in Jacksonville every Sunday at Jacksonville’s Farm & Ranch Store at 209 S. JULY 18

Falvey Methodist Church of Alto will celebrate Confirmation Sunday, July 18, with baptisms during services. A potluck reception will follow.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1515 S. Loop 256 in Palestine, will celebrate the Eighth Sunday of pentecost on July 18 with 9 a.m. Sunday School and 10:15 a.m. Divine Service to Holy Communion.

An inaugural Cruising for the Kingdom rally will be held from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at Lighthouse Church of Bullard, 650 S. Dr. M. Roper Parkway in Bullard. Chaplain R. Duane Gryder is the guest speaker for the event, which is sponsored by local motorcycle clubs. Cost is $10 per person, $15 per couple or five canned food items. A bike show, along with games, will be held.

JULY 22

A free East Texas Horticultural field day, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday, July 22.

JULY 23

The Jacksonville Rotary Club will sponsor a round of Night Golf, Friday, July 23, at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club. The scramble features 9 holes, with a winner on the back 9 and a winner on the front 9, with all holes marked as Par 3. Glow-in-the-dark golf balls will be provided. JULY 23

Cherokee Ranch Golf Club will host a Hole-in-One contest, with contest day slated Friday July 23. Qualifying times are from 3-6 p.m. July 15-17 and July 19-22. Those who are closest to the hole during these days will get a shot at the July 23 contest. Entry is $5 per shot.

JULY 24

The Jacksonville Fire Department will host a Splash Day at Nichols Green Splashpad, 1923 S. Jackson St., from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24. The free event is open to families, with hot dogs and snow cones available.

JULY 29

THROUGH JULY 27

The Rusk Public Library will host its annual summer reading program – themed “Tales and Tails” for the 2021 event – every Tuesday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., with events at various locations throughout the city. To learn more, contact library staff at 903-683-5916.

JULY 27-28

Cherokee Civic Theatre will hold auditions for the play “Little Women,” and are seeking to fill three male roles and 11 female roles, ages 13 and older. Auditions at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 27-28, at the 157 W. 5th St. theatre. The play’s script is an adaptation by Scott Davidson from the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, and is a condensed version of the original story line.

AUG. 6

A veterans breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Anderson County Livestock Exchange & Stockmans Café, 12719 S. State Highway in Elkhart. The breakfast is held every first Friday of the month, with veterans eating for free.

AUG. 7

Cherokee Civic Theatre will host a concert by Spirit and Understanding, 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. There is no ticket charge, but donation of $10 and more will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will go to CCT’s Raise the Roof fund and Spirit of Understanding Inc.

THROUGH AUG. 8

Falvey Methodist Church of Alto will host a school supply drive benefiting Wells ISD students. A donation box will be set up through Aug. 8 at the church.

AUG. 22

A fellowship potluck luncheon will follow the Aug. 22 Sunday service at Falvey Methodist Church in Alto.

SEPT. 11

The Cherokee Craft & Trade Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at 707 College Ave. in Jacksonville.

SEPT. 18

The 2021 Texas Veterans Military Show, honoring America’s veterans, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at 655 S. Doctor M. Roper Parkway (US Highway 69) in Bullard. The event kicks off with a military convoy from Tyler to Bullard led by the Patriot Guard Riders, along with a variety of military vehicles, the Texas Wall, a classic car/truck show, a flyover, parade and music by Mouse and the Traps. Piney Woods Market Days launches Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St. The free event is slated from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
