JULY 10
Rusk Youth Sports Association to host a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Rusk KOA Holiday on FM 343 East in Rusk. Domino and cornhole tournaments are planned – entry fees are $5 for each event – as is a silent auction featuring numerous donated items. Concession stands will be set up, as are a bake sale, Kona Ice and a dunking booth – come dunk Monica Fisher!
Registration for the Jacksonville Tribe Youth Sports program Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Bowens Temple Church, 308 N. Bolton St., Jacksonville for the following age groups: Flag, ages 4 to 6, $85 fee; freshmen, ages 7 and 8, $150; sophomore, ages 9 and 10, $150; junior, ages 11 and 12, $150. Participants must provide a birth certificate, a recent photo and a physical form/wellness check. Practice begins July 26, with time and location to be announced. The River Church in Alto will host “Fresh Outpouring,” 6:30 p.m. nightly, July 11-14, with Dr. Andrew J. Willis, Pastor Shules Hersh and Pastor Reginal Dees presenting the event.

A July 14 adolescent first-dose COVID vaccination clinic at the Jacksonville Public Library, 526 E. Commerce St., is open to youths ages 12-17. The Military Veteran Peer Network Cherokee and Anderson County will host a July 16 drawing for a Ruger Max 9, tickets sold through July 15, at Cherokee Parcel Post and For the Love of Nutrition, both in downtown Rusk. Tickets are $10 each, with proceeds benefitting local veterans. The prize also comes with a box of ammo, both of which have been donated by Cherokee Tactical. To learn more, call 903-721-2078.

A school supply drive for Alto ISD students will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at the Booker T. Washington Community Center.
JULY 18
Falvey Methodist Church of Alto will celebrate Confirmation Sunday, July 18, with baptisms during services. A potluck reception will follow.
JULY 22
A free East Texas Horticultural field day, hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday, July 22.

The Rusk Public Library will host its annual summer reading program – themed “Tales and Tails” for the 2021 event – every Tuesday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., June 8 to July 27, with events at various locations throughout the city. To learn more, contact library staff at 903-683-5916.

Cherokee Civic Theatre will hold auditions for the play “Little Women,” and are seeking to fill three male roles and 11 female roles, ages 13 and older. Auditions at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 27-28, at the 157 W. 5th St. theatre. The play’s script is an adaptation by Scott Davidson from the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, and is a condensed version of the original story line.
JULY 31
Spend a day with Santa at the Rusk KOA Holiday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 31. Visitors can enjoy a meal, pose for pictures, swim and ride pedal cars.
