JD Thompson and the Rusk Eagles extended their season with a 6-3 win over tradition-rich Region IV powerhouse Sinton Pirates, behind Thompson's 115-pitch 6,1/3 inning performance. The Eagles never led by more than one run at the conclusion of an inning until Brett Rawlinson and Zach Blackmon's back-to-back two-out RBIs in the seventh inning gave Thompson and Mason Cirkel some appreciated breathing room.

Cirkel retired both batters he faced in the 7th giving the Eagles a 1-2-3 seventh after Thompson recorded the first out. Thompson allowed three runs while walking three and striking out six Pirates.

Wade Williams led the Eagles with two RBIs and Bryce Lenard's fielder's choice RBI in the 4th inning proved to be the difference.

The Class 4A state championship game will be an all East Texas affair with Texarkana's Pleasant Grove in the opposing dugout. Pleasant Grove won their 1 p.m. state semi-final with Stephenville by a score of 13-0 in 4,1/2 innings.
