Limited-time waiting list to be offered for housing choice vouchers

ALTO – A limited-time waiting list for housing choice vouchers will be offered May 17-27, according to Alto Housing Authority officials.

The Section 8 waiting list with Alto Housing Authority has not been open to new applicants for several months due to a backlog of applications, according to a notice from the Alto Housing Authority.

“Many folks are still struggling with unemployment, inability to pay current rents, etc., due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said AHA executive director Mary Crocker McKay. “This HUD-subsidized rental assistance program might just be exactly what they need to keep their heads above the water, but many people who may be eligible for this type of assistance don’t even know that it exists.”

Applications will be taken and issued from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, May 17-27 at the AHA office, 282 Wright Patman Dr. in Alto.

Once issued, the voucher may be used within Cherokee County as well as in Troup.
