Area churches are invited to publish their announcements for upcoming events each week in The Cherokeean Herald. Information must be submitted by noon Friday for our Wednesday edition. Send information to [email protected] or call 903-683-2257. We want to help you get the word out about your activities and services. The Cherokeean is for all of Cherokee County.
The congregation at Maydelle Assembly of God is pleased to announce that the church continues to host Sunday morning services in compliance with CDC guidelines. All are invited to participate in Sunday School, beginning at 10 a.m., with morning worship at 11 a.m. The church is located at 316 U.S. Highway 84 West in Maydelle.
DURING LENT
St. John’s UMC of Jacksonville: Pastor Dale Jamerson posts Words of Life each day during Lent, 30 Days of Renewal on the church Facebook page. St. Johns, located at 2020 Beaumont St, has Sunday morning worship is 11:15 a.m.
Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church – at 1023 Corinth Rd. in Jacksonville – will host Stations of the Cross in English Fridays at 6 p.m., followed by Mass, adoration and confession, with Via Cruces recited in Spanish at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 17, Bethlehem Lutheran Church – located at 1515 S. Loop 256 in Palestine – continues its midweek Lenten worship at 7 p.m. This year’s series is titled, “Three Significant Days.”
MARCH 19
Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, located at 1023 Corinth Rd. in Jacksonville, will host a Lenten fish fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, with dine in and carry out options available. Tickets are $10 adults and $6 children; plates include fried catfish, beans, coleslaw, French fries, macaroni & cheese, hush puppies and pudding. Proceeds benefit the church building fund.
MARCH 20
Miles Pike is excited to announce special guest artists The Erwins will appear Saturday, March 20, at his 14th annual homecoming concert. This sibling group – who hail from the East Texas area – are nationally known, have won a Dove award and are nominated for a Grammy as well. Pike’s Homecoming concert begins at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Troup. Doors open at 4 p.m. for seating, and a free will offering will be received.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, across from Palestine High School at 1515 S. Loop 256, celebrates the fifth Sunday of Lent, March 21, with Divine Service of Holy Communion at 9 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. Bethlehem also has past services posted on our YouTube channel.

APRIL 1-2
First United Methodist Church of Rusk will hold a Maundy Thursday service on Thursday, April 1, at 6 p. m. Good Friday Service. The Seven Last Words of Christ will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, April 2. The Lenten series “The Kingdom is like …,” which began Feb. 28, continues. The church is located at 255 S. Henderson St. in Rusk.

Holy Week activities at Jacksonville’s Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church includes: Holy Thursday, April 1, 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper, washing of feet and transfer of the Blessed Sacrament; Good Friday, April 2, 3 p.m. Stations of the Cross and Passion (English), 6 p.m. Via Cruces y Pasíon, en vivo (Spanish); Holy Saturday, April 3, 8 p.m. Easter vigil; Easter Sunday, April 4, liturgies at 9:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. The church is located at 1023 Corith Rd. in Jacksonville.
