Area entities announce closings
A number of area entities have announced closings of clinics, campuses and other programs during upcoming days in preparation of anticipated winter weather conditions. The Cherokeean Herald will post updates throughout the next several days to keep readers informed of changes
UT Health East Texas Physicians
All UT Health East Texas Physicians clinics will be closed Monday due to inclement weather, according to officials. This includes the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at UT Health North Campus Tyler, 11937 U.S. Highway 271. Anyone who has a COVID-19 vaccine appointment scheduled for Monday may come to the clinic to receive their second dose on another day next week; a scheduled appointment is not needed, but people will need to bring the vaccine card they received at their first appointment.
The recommendation is to get the second dose as close as possible to the scheduled date, and it is safe and effective for those scheduled Monday to receive the vaccine on another day next week.
All other clinics will be contacting patients to reschedule their appointments. Should you have an immediate need for care, we have providers available for telehealth visits, which can be scheduled at UTHealthEastTexasDoctors.com or by calling 903-596-3627.
Alto ISD
A Feb. 13 scrimmage scheduled between the Alto Yellowjackets and Central Bulldogs has been cancelled; meanwhile, Feb. 16 scrimmage between Alto and Garrison–slated for 5 p.m.–remains as planned.
Wells ISD
While Monday, Feb. 15, is a holiday for all public school students in Cherokee County, Wells ISD an-nounced that their students will have a two-hour delay when returning to the campus on Tuesday, Feb. 16, with classes starting at 9:45.
WISD officials said they will monitor the weather before announcing any other changes.
The Good Samaritan of Rusk
A food distribution day set for Wednesday, Feb. 17, has been cancelled at Rusk’s Good Samaritan, due to inclement weather. The Good Samaritan’s thrift shop also will be closed that day.
The Chaparral Center/Alto Food Pantry
According to recent social media posts, Alto’s Chaparral Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Satur-day. However, no other information has been posted whether set schedules for the Feb. 16 monthly food distribution or the Feb. 17 WIC clinic or produce distribution day have been impacted by predicted weather issues.
