Registration open for Feb. 4 East Texas turf, landscape conference

Registration for a virtual conference focusing on "East Texas Turf and Landscape" slated for Thursday, Feb. 4, is currently underway.

The live, web-based event offers continuing education credit for pesticide applicators and landscape maintenance professionals who care for home lawns, golf courses and sports fields.

According to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, the event kicks off with an 8:45 a.m. online participant check-in, followed by a 9 a.m. "IPM Strategies for Turf Insects and Diseases," presented by extension turfgrass specialist Dr. Chrissie Segars.

A 10 a.m. "Turf Weeds and Watering: Cultural Control, Indicator Weeds, Water-Driven Weed Ecology, Watering and Herbicide Movement" session presented by Dr. Becky Bowling, an extension specialist for urban water, is followed by Segars' 11 a.m. "Managing Weeds in Turf with Herbicides" presentation.

Afternoon sessions include:

12:45 p.m. – "Common Tree Diseases and Treatment Options," by Texas A&M Forest Service staff forester Daniel Duncum

1:45 p.m. – "Tree Pests and Treatment Options," by Regional Forest Health Coordinator Allen Smith

2:45 p.m. – Final questions, participant survey, closing remarks

Cost is $25 per person, offering participants with a TDA pesticide applicators license 5 CEUs (2 IPM, 3 General).
