Cherokee County 4-H Shooting Sports plans Jan. 31 meeting

RUSK – The Cherokee County 4-H Shooting Sports program will host an informational meeting, 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St.

Comprised of the Cherokee 4-H Shooting Sports Club and the Cherokee 4-H Clay Crusher, the program is open to local 4-H youths ages eight to 18.

The program is one strictly supervised by state-certified 4-H shooting sports coaches, and provides a safe learning experience for shooters of all levels, preparing participants to compete at local, area and state levels, according to a release.

"The focus of all 4-H programs is to offer programs to help develop youth into responsible and productive members and leaders in their communities. The Texas 4-H Shooting Program is an outstanding example of such," the release noted. "Youth learn the safe and responsible use of firearms, marksmanship, focus, leadership, principles of competition and hunting, and much more. With support from caring and cautious leaders, members will learn life skills, self-worth and conservation ethics that they will carry throughout the lerives."
