Fall clean-up days planned in Rusk, Alto
Residents of Rusk and Alto will have an opportunity to unload unwanted items during clean-up days planned this month.
The City of Rusk will host its fall clean-up from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at the city warehouse at 511 S. Dickinson Dr. The event is restricted to residents receiving city water service, and city workers will monitor the site.
Among accepted items are brush and yard waste, bulky items, household items, furniture, outdoor grills, dishwashers, appliances (that do not use Freon), paper or cardboard items, lawn mowers, construction debris, wood and metal items, mattress sets or water heaters.
Items not accepted are liquids of any kind, whole tires (they must be split or quartered), oil/oil filters, any appliance containing CFC’s (Freon), lead acid batteries, hazardous waste, chemicals or pesticides, paint or paint buckets (only if paint is completely dried and free of liquid), medical waste of any kind, or dead animals.
All items must be manageable by two people when loading the container, according to city officials.
In Alto, the city’s semi-annual clean-up days are planned for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
A waste dumpster will be located at the water tower on Rusk Street, behind the local cemetery.
Accepted items include brush, yard waste, bulky/household items, furniture, paper, cardboard and trash. Appliances and metal items also will be accepted; lead acid batteries from mowers or vehicles, must be placed alongside the waste dumpster.
Not accepted: Rubber tires (unless a recycling fee is paid for each tire), oil/oil filters, liquids, paints and household garbage.
Citizens are asked to bring a utility bill as proof of residence.
