School clothes still available

Jacksonville families who need assistance getting their fightin’ Indians outfitted for Jacksonville Independent School District’s 20-21 school year can still get it.

Through its annual ‘Outfitting for the Future’ back-to-school clothes shopping event, the Clothes Closet & More continues to offer up to five free sets of JISD dress code appropriate clothing to any Jacksonville student who needs them, before the first day of school.

“There are so many families struggling due to job losses or hours being reduced and we hope we can help ease their burden,” Clothes Closet Executive Director Mickey Gear said in a letter to the school district. “This is an annual event but due to the virus we are holding it at our location.

“We ask that the parents bring their children and everyone wear a mask.

“We allow only one family in the room at a time and we disinfect after each family.

Thank you and have a wonderfully blessed school year.”

The program serves on average 300 Jacksonville students each year and also provides shoes, belts and lunch kits to as many students as possible, while supplies last.

The Clothes Closet & More is located at 314 S. Main St., in Jacksonville. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday each week.
