It may not be at the river, but Cherokee County’s residents are invited to gather at the courthouse to start a movement of unity between all brothers and sisters in Christ.

Sale Barn Sunday Cowboy Fellowship is holding the ‘United We Stand’ prayer meeting, 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Cherokee County Courthouse on the square in downtown Rusk.

The event is to be a gathering of Prayer Warriors, according to event organizer Jeff Thompson of Henderson.

“We are coming together in Christ to lift up our leaders, police, the downtrodden, all races and creeds,” Thompson stated on the church’s Facebook page. “From this, we would like to start a fire that will burn down all forms of hatred and racism and become one in Christ.

“Time to stand up. folks.

“God is opening doors everywhere and I believe that prayer is the biggest factor in getting things moving.

“Now is the time for all like-minded Christians to stand as one in unity with Christ.

“The problems we are having right now is more of a sin problem than anything else and it is time for us to stand up as one in Christ to attack the real problem in our country and that is Satan.”

Masks and water will be provided for all that attend.

Social distancing practices will be maintained as much as possible as well.
