Ruby Gentry

Graveside services for Ruby Gentry, 92, of Rusk, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, in Maydelle, Texas, under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home-Rusk with Brother Jack White officiating.

Mrs. Gentry passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020. She was born March 1, 1928, in Rusk, Texas, to the late James Austin and Estella Vaughn. She attended Central and Alto schools. For 50 years, she worked in downtown Rusk, serving at Stovall Cleaners, Mathews-Miller, Baskins, Richey’s Ritz Shop and Anita’s Apparel and Accessories. She married J.C. Gentry on Oct. 9, 1948. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to work puzzles, hand quilting and crochet. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for gifts for friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years; and her 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sheila Gentry of Rusk; grandchildren, Jason, Laurie and Brandon Gentry; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friend, Ernestine Watson; and several close friends, as well as her church family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, 2020, from 4-7 p.m. to allow for fewer people to be in the funeral home at one time.
