Support sought for student livestock show exhibitors

Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show (CCJLS) officials, on Wednesday, March 18, canceled the 2020 event due to Coronavirus concerns. The show would have taken place Wednesday-Saturday, March 25-28.

A letter to CCJLS supporters from Cherokee County Stock Show and Exposition, Inc. is now seeking assistance to support the over 500 exhibitors who would have taken part in the Junior Livestock Show.

“This show is instrumental in educating our youth by teaching leadership skills and responsibilities through agriculture,” reads a portion of the letter. “The Expo Board proudly offers an opportunity to financially reward tomorrow’s leaders during these unprecedented times.”

The group has posted an alphabetical list of the exhibitors and a cover letter on the website, cherokeecountyexpo.org, as well as on the Facebook page, Cherokee County Stock Show & Exposition, Inc. Both the exhibitor list and cover letter can also be found at www.ruskffa.com or any of the Rusk FFA, Jacksonville FFA or Troup FFA Facebook pages.

The letter from the board requests supporters print and fill out both documents with the dollar amount that is being added on to each exhibitor’s project. Tax-deductible donations can be made payable to CCJLS and mailed to PO Box 705, Jacksonville, TX 75766.

“Please think about assisting the students within our community by adding on to their county show projects,” the CCJLS page states. “With the cancellation of the Cherokee County Jr. Livestock Show, many of these students are now struggling to break even with the funds they have put into their projects.”

The deadline for contributions is Friday, April 24.
