Alto ISD announces extended break

March 13, 2020

ALTO ISD has been actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation throughout Spring Break.

Earlier today, administrators across the county met with North East Texas Public Health. Following information from that meeting, Alto ISD has made the decision to extend Spring Break an additional week. There will be no school March 16th through the 20th, for all students and staff.

Because of this being a rapidly changing situation, we ask for your patience and flexibility over the coming days. The district will reevaluate the situation as we progress through this next week.

The decision for any additional closings will be made following a meeting with North East Texas Public Health and Smith and Cherokee County school district representatives scheduled for next Thursday, March 19.

Additionally, all school events during this closure will be canceled and rescheduled as permitted – this includes all practices, rehearsals, games, or events. Effective immediately, all district facilities will be closed and will not be available for use during the district-wide closure.

As soon as decisions are made for coming weeks, we will announce through our district website, our district Facebook page, and our automated phone system.

We realize that this is a difficult time for many. As a school district, our priority will always be the safety and security of our students, staff, and community as a whole. This is an unprecedented situation for all school districts throughout the state, and these decisions are not taken lightly.
