Doolin' performance at Pines Theater cancelled: Arts Alliance Impacted by national travel ban and addresses pandemic preparedness

March 12, 2020

Lufkin, TX. The Angelina Arts Alliance announces the performance of Doolin’ on March 21 at the Pines Theater is now cancelled due to the European travel ban implemented yesterday by order of the President of the United States in an effort to prevent the number of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) cases from increasing in the country.

Doolin’ was scheduled to kick-off an American tour in Lufkin at the Pines Theater as part of the 2020 Pines Presents Series. The French artists are known internationally for their outstanding Celtic and Irish style music.

The Arts Alliance hopes to reschedule the group to a later date, which has yet to be determined. Once the new date is set, patrons will have the opportunity to transfer their tickets or request a refund. The Arts Alliance will keep its patrons and the public informed about this developing program change.

“The performing arts is an international industry and as part of our mission, we bring the very best performing arts in the world to East Texas. As presenters of live cultural experiences through music, theater and dance, we are aware that large gatherings have become a subject of concern due to the spread of the Coronavirus. This situation has prompted our immediate attention as to how it impacts our patrons and our performances,” said Jennifer Allen, Executive Director of the Angelina Arts Alliance.

The Angelina Arts Alliance is closely monitoring local and national CDC updates and industry protocols regarding the Coronavirus.

“The safety and security of our patrons are our highest priority. We are following the lead of other theaters and live music venues regarding recommended strategies for Temple Theater and Pines Theater performances for which we are responsible. We remain vigilant, and we are prepared to make decisions based on current needs, as well as in response to changing conditions,” said Allen.

At this time, the Arts Alliance will continue to present performances as part of the regular seasons at both theaters, including The Underwater Bubble Show (March 29 –Temple Theater), MOMIX (April 4 – Temple Theater) and Ranky Tanky (April 21 – Pines Theater).

As a precaution and for the time being, the Arts Alliance will implement the following guidelines for upcoming performances:

· Please stay home if you are not feeling well;

· Practice social distancing - instead of shaking hands upon arrival with other guests, use a friendly wave instead;

· Maintain proper hygiene by thoroughly washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water;

· Hand sanitizing stations will be set up at the performances;

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

· Both theaters are cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis.

“We hope everyone will take precautions and continue to enjoy the many wonderful performances coming to our community. If it becomes necessary to cancel any future show due to pandemic, we will take those steps at the time.”
