Area basketball seasons come to an end: Tigers end playoff run

The Troup Tigers ended their playoff run at the Regional Tournament semifinal game against Whitesboro on Friday, March 6.

The Troup Tigers (11-3) secured second place in the District 16-3A standings, behind rival Arp (13-1). The team entered post-season play against Daingerfield, earning the Bi-district title with a 39-37 win.

The team advanced to Area, where they defeated Commerce, 45-37.

In the Regional Quarterfinal, the Tigers triumphed over Tatum, 55-49.

Grayson Driggs and Bracey Cover topped team scoring against the Tatum Eagles with 16 points each. Kedrick Frazier pitched in 11 points.

Clayton Vickers and Matthew Castillo added six points apiece.

As a team, Troup recorded nine treys to Tatum’s four. Cover hit four from beyond the arc. Frazier posted three treys and Driggs recorded two.

The Tigers advanced to the Regional Tournament, falling to the Whitesboro Bearcats, 55-36, in the semifinal.

Troup completed the season with an overall record of 29-10.

Many of the team earned district accolades.

Bracey Cover was named Newcomer of the Year.

Team members Grayson Driggs and Kedrick Frazier each received First Team honors.

Matthew Castillo was named Second Team. Clayton Vickers and Blake Wood received Honorable Mentions.

Those earning Academic All District honors were Castillo, Cover, Driggs, Jordan Elliott, Easton Haugeberg and Clayton Vickers.
