Jacksonville man finds Shelley

March 04, 2020

Benjamin Burgenson of Jacksonville won the Cherokeean Herald’s ‘Where in Cherokee County is Shelley Cleaver?’ photo contest held through the month of February. More than 30 images of Cleaver were submitted from citizens, the Jacksonville Progress, the Jacksonville Chamber, elected officials and sheriff candidates. Burgenson, who just happened to be the first person to enter the contest, won the prize basket worth more than $150 when his name was pulled in the drawing held Monday, March 2. The basket included items provided by contest sponsors Whataburger, Birmingham Golf Club, Maydelle Country Wines, Old Farmhouse Pottery, Cherokee Civic Theatre and Brookshire Brothers. Cleaver even donated a signed copy of his Lickskillet Vol. 3 cookbook for the prize package. Cleaver said of the contest, “after 85 years, a man deserves something special and this makes me feel pretty special.” The Cherokeean Herald would like to thank Cleaver and its readers for participating in the contest.
