Wells Independent School District appointed a new, but familiar, captain to helm the Pirates’ district.

In its February board meeting, the Wells ISD Board of Education appointed Wells Secondary Campus Principal Jill Gaston as the new superintendent of Wells ISD, effective July 1, 2020.

She will continue to serve as WISD Secondary Campus Principal through the end of current school year.

Beginning March 1, she will assume additional duties as a district administrator to begin plans for the 2020-21 school year.

“I consider this opportunity to serve the community of Wells through the Superintendent position an honor,” she said. “This is an awesome little community with great people and a great school. “I am following leadership who have done a wonderful job of setting the district up for success and will continue with many of the initiatives and programs already in place.

“There are always areas of schools in which to improve, and I plan on taking a team approach with our talented faculty and staff in addressing those. I can honestly say that the faculty and staff here at Wells ISD care about each child as an individual and have a vested interest in each student’s success.

“This school and these students have huge potential, and we will strive every day to continue to realize and develop the potential of every student!”

Gaston served Center ISD as director of Roughrider Academy before becoming Wells ISD’s secondary principal in 2018.

She has a broad experience in education having also worked as an educator in Central, Hudson, Pearsall, McMullen County, Cotulla, and Bryan Independent School Districts.
