Jacksonville City Council breezed through its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11, without Councilman Tim McRae, who was absent.

Jacksonville ISD’s Student Ambassadors started the meeting on a high note, as they each introduced themselves and shared details on what they were up to in school. The Council also recognized February’s Employee of the Month Brian Gay; JEDCO’s Employer of the Month Polywize; and the city’s Volunteer of the Month, Helen Keller.

The Council unanimously approved annual agreements with the Jacksonville Baseball Association and the Jacksonville Soccer Association for the 2020 season.

In other business, the Council approved the construction of a home on land in the Lake Jacksonville Concession area. City Manager Greg Smith said the Lake Advisory Board recommends approval. In a related matter, the Council approved two bids on 99-year leases on two lots in the Lake Jacksonville Summit subdivision.

The Council also unanimously approved allowing the city manager to negotiate all aspects, accept a final offer for the sale of city property and execute all documents associated with the Texas Department of Transportation’s Highway 175 right-of-way expansion project.

After a lengthy executive session, the Council unanimously approved sale terms of certain city-owned property; a 3A agreement with GVD Construction for economic development; and allowing the city manager and city attorney to work with residents to remove encroachments at the new Public Safety Complex.
