New Summerfield dominates: Hornets, Lady Hornets walk away soccer tournament champs

With six teams competing in the men’s division of the soccer tournament hosted by New Summerfield, the host team won the championship.

Four teams vied for the title in the women’s category, the Nacogdoches JV won the prize with the Lady Hornets taking runner-up.

The six teams participating in the men’s segment were Brownsboro, Diboll, John Tyler JV, Lufkin Hudson, Tenaha and the host team, New Summerfield.

The New Summerfield Hornets earned a 3-0 record in tournament pool play. They defeated Diboll, 1-0; Brownsboro, 6-1; and Lufkin Hudson, 4-0. Diboll ended pool play with a 2-1 record, having defeated John Tyler JV, 1-0, and Tenaha, 5-0. Their only loss was to New Summerfield.

New Summerfield and Diboll were in the championship game, with the Hornets winning in a shutout match, 2-0.

The New Summerfield Lady Hornets competed against three other teams including Carlisle, Nacogdoches JV and Tenaha.

The Nacogdoches JV earned a 3-0 record and the tournament win. New Summerfield’s Lady Hornets were runners-up with a 2-1 tournament record.

The Hornets are scheduled to host Henderson 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6. The Lady Hornets are slated to host Robert E. Lee JV noon,. Saturday, Feb. 8.
