Bullard powerlifters earn top honors

Three members of the Bullard powerlifting team topped their respective weight classes at the Malakoff Invitational Thursday, Jan. 23.

In the men’s division, Zack Wise earned gold in the 123-weight class. His lifts of 215, squat; 155 bench press; and 270, dead lift; gave him a total of 650 pounds.

Two Lady Panthers eclipsed the competition, finishing first in their segments. Maria Vences, participating in the 181-weight class, lifted 860 pounds total (340 squat; 234 bench, 285 dead lift) and was named Outstanding Lifter. Leighann Langston was the top lifter in the 259-plus division with a total weight of 1,025 (390, 300, 335).

The Panthers finished sixth overall with 14 points. The top three teams were Fairfield (37), Palestine Westwood (34) and Corsicana (32).

Ezra Roy finished in the third slot in the 196-weight class. His lifts of 400 (squat), 190 (bench) and 400 (dead lift) earned him a total weight of 990 pounds.

Coming in just outside the top three was Caiden Lee with a fourth-place finish in the 123 segment. His total weight was 615 pounds (215, 160, 240).

Panthers participating in the 165-weight class included Chandler Davenport, seventh, 835 total weight; Drew Hull, eighth, 785; and Landon Wilson, 11th, 750.

Lady Panthers Samantha Pineda secured second in the 132-segment with lifts of 225 (squat), 85 (bench) and 275 (dead lift), which equaled 585 pounds. Alexcis Lackey earned fourth in the same class, with a total weight of 555 pounds.

Kamerin Ortiz took third in the 105-weight class with lifts totaling 270 pounds.

Kyleigh Thornhill and Grace O’Bannon finished in the fifth and sixth slots, respectively, in the 148-class. Each lifter had a total weight of 550 pounds.

The next meet for the Bullard powerlifters will be hosted at Bullard Saturday, Feb. 8.
