County recognizes employees

The business of the commissioners’ court was carried out Tuesday, Jan. 14, with the absence of County Judge Chris Davis and Precinct 2 Commissioner Steven Norton.

The courtroom seating was filled near to capacity as county employees receiving service awards and members of the Jacksonville Leadership Institute class of 2020 were present.

After recognizing the presence of the Leadership students and awarding county employees with years of service pins, the commissioners undertook the business portion of the meeting.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s report, presented by Sheriff James Campbell, was accepted as given. The report disclosed numbers for both the month of December and for 2019 in total.

For the month, the sheriff’s department received 3,105 calls with 1,653 dispatched to deputies. The total offense cases reported for December was 147, with the greatest number of incidences being Child Protective Services (37), Theft (12) and Assault Family Violence (11).

The sheriff’s department received, for the year, a total of 38,524 calls with 21,505 dispatched to deputies. The numbered of civil processes completed for December was 182, and 1,495 for the year. The fees for the year figured at $147,949.78.

Campbell did note that the yearend figure of 746,972 for miles driven was down approximately 50,000 miles from the previous year.

Items commissioners voted to approve included:

- A Joint Resolution and Statistical Information for Joint Primary 2020 Election;

- Joint Primary Service Contracts for 2020 Election with both the Democratic and Republican parties; and

- Setting the polling location for Precinct 14 polling as Craft Baptist Church, 245 CR 1629.

Also approved was the consent agenda, consisting of Commissioners’ Court minutes; monthly reports by Paytn Woody, License & Weight; Jack White, Constable Precinct 2; Steven Daughety, County Auditor; and Erin Curtis, County Treasurer; as well as the payment of bills, payroll and the transfer of funds.
