Alto defeats Frankston

The Alto Yellowjackets defeated the Frankston Indians, 55-45, Tuesday, Dec. 17. Frankston was ahead by two at the end of the first period, 9-7, and extended their lead 25-15 by the half. The Jackets sank 23 points to the Indians’ 11 in the third quarter, overtaking Frankston 38-36. Outscoring the Indians in the final frame by a 17-9 margin, secured the win for Alto.

Skyler Atkins was top scorer with 32 points, including six three-pointers. Keithen Jenkins sank 10 points and Kevin Blanton put up six. Kurrin Sai Jackson dropped in four points and Jay Pope added three.

The Jackets opened the Huntington tournament with a loss to the host team, 70-33. Atkins was again lead scorer for the team with 13 points. He was followed by Jackson who had 11 points. Pope dropped in four points and Blanton sank three. Jenkins and Taylor Bowman added a single point apiece.

Alto won their second game of the tournament against Onalaska, 74-66. Atkins had the high score for the Jackets with 30 points, including six treys. Pope followed with 21 points. Blanton sank nine points and Jenkins dropped in seven. Jackson added five and Tra’Rell Dansby, two.

The final three games of the tournament were losses to Buna (56-48, Evadale (66-60) and Dayton (76-53).

The Yellowjackets will travel to Bullard Saturday, Dec. 28 to take on the Panthers, will travel to Pollok Central Monday, Dec. 30, and play at Slocum Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Bullard falls to Rusk

The Bullard Panthers traveled to Rusk Tuesday, Dec. 17, and fell to the Eagles, 59-52.

Jay’kwon Simms of the Eagles, dropped in 15 points, posted six rebounds and two steals. Travion Harris sank 13 points, had eight rebounds and three assists. Isiah Ward added five points and recorded seven assists.

Rusk totaled 37 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals and a block. The Eagles shot 37 percent of the field goals attempted, including 25 percent of three-pointers, and sank 53 percent of free throws.

The Panthers earne3d 36 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 steals and two blocks. Bullard hit 36 percent of field goals, including 14 percent of three-point shots, and 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Bullard will host Alto Saturday, Dec. 28.

Rusk will participate in the Crockett tournament Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 26-28, and will travel to Carthage Monday, Dec. 30.

Troup earns 3-3 record for week

The Troup Tigers hosted Latexo Tuesday, Dec. 17, defeating the opposing Tigers 67-32.

Grayson Driggs led the Troup scorers with 16 points, including two from three-point territory. Kedrick Frazier dropped in 12 points including two treys. Blake Wood sank 11 points, also including two treys. Bracey Cover’s nine points all came from three-point shots, as did Logan Womack’s six points. Clayton Vickers added five points; Trevor Padia, four; and Matthew Castillo and Easton Hagugeberg added two apiece.

The Tigers participated in the Union Grove tournament, earning a 2-3 record. The first game was lost to the McLeod Longhorns, 70-46. Cover was high scorer with 17 points, followed by Driggs with nine. Frazier and Womack sank six points each and Castillo added three.

Three point shots were made by Cover (5), Womack (2), Castillo (1) and Driggs (1) for a team total of nine compared to McLeod’s seven.

The next game resulted in a Tiger win over the Hooks Hornets, 72-38.

Driggs was top scorer with 24 points. Vickers and Wood followed with 13 points each. Castillo sank 11 points and Cover, seven. Frazier dropped in three and Womack added one.

A total of nine treys were made in the game by Troup with Driggs and Castillo each sinking three treys. Wood recorded two three-pointers and Cover, one.

Troup was beaten by the Waskom Wildcats by a mere three points, 42-39.

Frazier led the scoring with 17 points. Cover added eight points and Wood six. Castillo dropped in three points. Clayton and Vickers had two points each and Womack added one.

Troup posted five three-point shots to Waskom’s nine. Tigers hitting treys included Cover (2), Wood (2) and Castillo (1).

Playing the host team Union Grove, Troup again experienced defeat, 59-48.

Frazier was top scorer with 15 points followed by Wood with 13. Cover sank 11 points and Vickers put up seven. Driggs added two.

In the final game of the tournament, Troup beat the Gladewater Bears, 47-37.

Top scorer for the Tigers was Wood with 12 points. Driggs dropped in 11 points. Cover sank nine points and Vickers, eight. Frazier added four points and Castillo put in three.

The Troup Tigers will host the Glen Evans Classic Friday-Saturday, Dec. 27-28.

Wells wins over Oakwood

The Wells Pirates hosted Oakwood Tuesday, Dec. 17, defeating the Panthers 49-41.

Lead scorer for Wells was Cole Turner with 19 points. Cameron Dusek dropped in 13 points and recorded nine rebounds. Davion Stone sank eight points. Trace Selman added four, Israel Hernandez, three, and Jorge Hernandez, two.

The Pirates are scheduled to travel to LaPoynor Tuesday, Dec. 31.
