County football season closes as Troup, Brookhill end seasons

Troup falls to Newton

The Troup Tigers faced the Newton Eagles in the 3A-D2 Area playoff at the Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville on Friday, Nov. 22. The Tigers were defeated by the Eagles, 48-14.

Newton (11-1) will advance to the Regional playoff against Daingerfield (10-2) Friday, Nov. 29, to vie for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The loss to Newton breaks a Tiger six-game running streak. Troup garnered 149 offensive yards against Newton, with 120 yards gained through the aerial game and 29 yards rushing.

Jordan Elliott hit Desmon Deason on a seven-yard pass for one touchdown and Jaden Lewis on a 29-yard pass play for the other touchdown of the game.

Troup ends the season with a 5-2 district record, 7-5 overall.

Trinity Christian

takes down Brookhill

The Brook Hill Guard met the Trinity Christian Tigers on Bruce Field in Athens Saturday, Nov. 23.

The Guard lost to the Tigers in the TAPPS Division II Regional playoff, 59-0.

Brook Hill concludes the season with an 8-4 record.

Trinity Christian (11-1) moves forward to face Grapevine Faith Christian (10-1) in the TAPPS Division II State Semifinal.
