J'ville man injured, Flint man killed in two-vehicle collision

TYLER -- A Jacksonville man was injured and a Flint man died after an auto collision in Smith County this week.

Michael Christopher Menard, 28, of Jacksonville was treated and released by EMS at the scene of the two-vehicle crash. Ted Weldon Young, 79, of Flint was transported to UT-Health Tyler where he later died.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials reported Thursday, at 12:31 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, DPS troopers responded to the crash on U.S. Highway 69 at County Road 1215, 1.5 miles east of the city of Flint in Smith County.

Preliminary crash reports indicate Young, driving a 2004 Chevrolet van, was stopped at CR 1215, waiting to turn onto the highway. At the same time, Menard, driving a 2000 Chevrolet van, was traveling south on Hwy. 69. Young allegedly pulled out into the roadway and was struck by the southbound van, driven by Menard.

The crash remains under investigation.
