Cherokee County’s voters trickled into the polls during the early voting portion of this year’s general election, despite having several local matters and other hot-button items on the ballot.

The Cherokee County Elections Department on Monday reported of 27,716 registered voters in Cherokee County, only 1,364 voted early -- a 4 percent turnout.

Officials with the Texas Secretary of State’s office reported Tuesday, an estimated 795,000 people across Texas voted early.

Polls closed at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Voters got to put their check marks on several hot issues, including a potential state income tax; changes to the Rusk City Charter; and the $10.5 million Alto ISD bond.

Details on Cherokee County’s early voting results were unavailable as of press time, Tuesday.
