Alto crushes Cushing

The Alto Yellowjackets kept to the ground game in their 61-0 victory over the Cushing Bearkats Friday, Oct. 25, at JF Whitaker Stadium.

Alto’s ground game tallied 311 yards, while their aerial game was almost non-existent. The passing game consisted of a single completion from Harmon West to Todd Duplichain, for 21 yards. The single pass completion was out of only three attempts made during the game.
Leading rusher for the night was Aaron Skinner, who gained 117 yards on 10 carries. Je’Darious Bolton totaled 120 yards on nine runs and Vi’Dareous High carried the ball for 74 yards.

The Jacket defense forced the Cushing offense into negative yardage for the game. Harmon West led in tackles with 10, including two for losses. Cayle Irvin recorded nine tackles, three for losses. Jackson Howell posted seven tackles, one for a loss. Landry Smith and Foster Hall each added an identical four tackles, two for losses. The defense accounted for two of the touchdowns against Cushing, with fumble recoveries by Clayton Terry and Todd Duplichain.

First quarter scores included a touchdown by Skinner, running for 22 yards; an extra point kick made good by Julio Serrano; a 29-yard rushing touchdown, as well as a two-point conversion, by High. The defense actually put Alto on the scoreboard, beginning the game with a 26-yard fumble return by Terry. Duplichain added six points when he recovered a fumble in the end zone for the final score of the quarter.

Second period scoring started with Skinner on a three-yard carry. He also scored the two-point conversion. High crossed the goal line on a 42-yard run about halfway through the quarter. The Jackets went into the halftime break with a 41-0 lead over Cushing.

Returning to the field for the second half, Skinner once again put points on the board after running 47 yards for a touchdown. Bolton carried the ball 26 yards and across the goal line, also scoring the two-point conversion. In the final frame, it was Bolton again who scored. This time he ran the ball 50 yards for the only points in the quarter.

Alto remains undefeated for the season, 9-0. Their 3-0 district record is tied by the Hawkins Hawks. Carlisle is third with a 2-1 record, followed by big Sandy (1-2), Union Grove (0-3) and Cushing (0-3).

Hawkins has defeated Union Grove (14-7), Cushing (22-8) and Big Sandy (18-6). Alto has also faced Cushing (61-0) and Big Sandy (41-14), as well as Carlisle (28-7).

The Yellowjackets will host Hawkins Friday, Nov. 1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the result of the game will determine who stands alone atop the District 10-2A standings. Alto games are broadcast on 103.3 FM, or can be heard live online at 103thebull.com.
