Tribe tennis heading to district championship

The seemingly unstoppable Tribe tennis team has once again found themselves the victors after their match with Lufkin, 10 (16) - 2 (3). The Jacksonville netters remain undefeated this season.

All three male doubles teams defeated their Lufkin competitors, including Tavis Dosser and Sergio Rivera (6-0, 6-1), Carlos Camacho and Casey Coughlin (7-5, 6-1) and Saul Martinez and Alex Hassell (6-0, 4-6 [10-1]).

In the girls doubles division, Katlin Gonzalez and Alejandra Hernandez won, 6-3, 6-3. Isabelle Maiquez and Bianka Cornejo defeated their opponents, 6-0, 6-2.

The mixed doubles duo of Molly Bentoski and Will Royon were also victorious, 6-3, 6-3.

In men’s singles play, Martinez, Hassell, Camacho, Royon and Rivera each won their matches. In the women’s singles, Hernandez, Cornejo, Maiquez, Lizbet Saldana and Haley George each defeated her adversary.

In exhibition games, Caleb Blakeney and Laura Little defeated their competitors.

The Jacksonville tennis team were to take on Whitehouse, also undefeated, for the district championship. The match was to take place at Whitehouse Tuesday, Oct. 8.
